CDC typically posts travel health notices for countries and other international destinations, not conveyances, such as ships, airplanes, or trains. Because of the unprecedented nature of the novel coronavirus pandemic, and the increased risk of transmission of COVID on cruise ships, the US government is advising US travelers to defer all cruise travel. Recent reports of COVID on cruises highlight the risk of infections to cruise passengers and crew.
Like many other viruses, COVID appears to spread more easily between people in close quarters aboard ships and boats. As the COVID pandemic continues, there remains a risk of infected passengers and crew on board cruise ships. Older adults and people of any age with serious chronic medical conditions such as heart disease, chronic lung disease, and diabetes, are at a higher risk of serious disease if infected with the novel coronavirus.
In addition, the U. Department of State advises travelers to not go on cruises. This is a dynamic situation and those traveling by ship may be impacted by travel restrictions affecting their itineraries or ability to disembark or may be subject to quarantine procedures implemented by the local authorities. You cannot get this home care from Medicaid unless you are found eligible for Medicaid. If you currently pay for health insurance or Medicare coverage or have the option of getting that coverage, but cannot afford the payment, Medicaid can pay the premiums under certain circumstances.
Even if you are not eligible for Medicaid benefits, the premiums can still be paid, in some instances, if you lose your job or have your work hours reduced. You may be eligible for the Medicare Savings Program. This program pays your Medicare premiums and deductibles. The chart below shows how much income you can receive in a month and the amount of resources if applicable you can retain and still qualify for Medicaid.
The income and resource if applicable levels depend on the number of your family members who live with you. You may also own a home, a car, and personal property and still be eligible.
The income and resources if applicable of legally responsible relatives in the household will also be counted.
A trust can contain:. As a general rule, if you use your assets to establish a trust on or after January 1,all or part of the trust assets will be counted as your resource for purposes of determining your Medicaid eligibility.
Medicaid will not count the assets in a special needs trust or pooled trust if it meets the described criteria. You must include a written statement indicating the amount of monthly income that will be placed into the trust each month. If you are interested in setting up a trust, you should consult a lawyer or financial advisor.
You may be able to get a lawyer at no cost to you by calling your local Legal Aid or Legal Services Office. For the names of other lawyers, call your local or State Bar Association.
Note: Also, for married and single individuals, assets that you may use to fund a trust and which we may not count while you are living in the community, will count in determining the amount of income you must contribute toward the cost of long term nursing home care.COVID is a highly infectious and fast-spreading virus. Symptoms and their effects can range from mild to severe and in certain cases result in extreme health complications and death. Positive cases have been identified in communities across New Mexico.
State health officials continue to test, process, monitor and track instances of the virus — and the state of New Mexico has taken proactive, aggressive public health actions to mitigate the spread of the disease.
For a full listing of testing sites in your area along with hours of operation, and contact information, please visit the directory by clicking the link below. Sites are designed to keep you and health care workers safe. Sometimes you stay in your car. Other sites will screen you before you come indoors. NMDOH has deployed an online tool for you to look up your results quickly. Since late January, NMDOH began publishing weekly press releases and information on our website to help New Mexicans keep updated on the current situation and on professional guidance to stay healthy.
We hold multiple web conferences with hospitals, emergency medical services, childcare organizations, universities, and schools to provide updates, guidance for preparing and responding to the possibility of cases in New Mexico, and to answer questions that our response stakeholders have. We use the Health Alert Network for the healthcare community to update them on current response activities and guidelines for diagnosis, infection control, and notification procedures should they identify a high-risk case.
We are currently working to identify cases as early as possible and implement isolation procedures to prevent further spread of the virus. Due to increased statewide test capacity, all New Mexico residents can receive testing through their provider or the 50 screening and testing sites that are available throughout the state. Testing is prioritized for 1 symptomatic people displaying cough, fever or shortness of breath, 2 asymptomatic people who are close contacts or household members of New Mexico residents who have already tested positive for COVID, 3 asymptomatic residents in nursing homes, and 4 asymptomatic people in congregant settings such as homeless shelters, group homes, and detention centers.
We are also actively monitoring the hospital bed capacity in New Mexico and the availability of facemasks, respirators, and other personal protective equipment needed for infection control. We are working with healthcare facilities to be prepared if there are shortages and to implement alternative sites for healthcare if needed, and to increase the supply of personal protective equipment.
These orders include instructing all New Mexicans to stay at home except for emergency or essential outings, and closing non-essential businesses and healthcare facilities with in-person operations. Based on years of planning for the next influenza pandemic, a virus that is similar to the novel coronavirus, we have adapted our plans based on current knowledge of the novel coronavirus that causes COVID We have focused on measures to track the cases identified in New Mexico, to prevent spread of infections through social distancing, to ensure continuity of the healthcare system where patient volumes may require supplemental care sites, and to anticipate special approaches to effectively manage the needs that New Mexicans have for information and healthcare services.
